Founder & CEO: Idris Patel BEM BCAc

Idris Patel founded Supporting Humanity in 2020, driven by a deep passion for improving lives and supporting individuals through some of their most challenging moments. What began with burial and bereavement support quickly expanded into a multifaceted charity offering mental wellbeing assistance, community support services, and a wide range of initiatives uplifting people across diverse backgrounds.Idris is married to Aminah and has 3 beautiful girls who are all actively part of the charity.

With over 25 years of experience in project and product management, Idris brings extensive leadership and strategic expertise to his role. During his time working in major transformation programmes at BT, he led product initiatives valued between £15–£20 million, gaining a strong foundation in innovation, delivery, and large-scale change management. His professional background is further strengthened by experience within the NHS, as well as work across counselling, coaching, and community engagement.

IIdris is a qualified coach in five different sports and has supported individuals in a wide range of environments, including those with special needs. His ability to mentor, motivate, and inspire continues to underpin the charity’s values and impact.

He currently chairs and serves on a number of boards and advisory groups across the community sector, acting in non-executive and leadership capacities. His roles span mental health, faith, safety, and community relations, and he is actively involved in projects focused on collaboration, transformation, and strengthening relationships across agencies.

Idris also leads a team of more than 500 volunteers, demonstrating exceptional capability in leadership, engagement, and organisational development. His commitment to continuous learning is reflected in his ongoing qualifications, including training in menopause awareness, mental health, and suicide prevention — all of which enhance his ability to support individuals with empathy and insight. His impactful work has earned him numerous awards and accolades, including the British Empire Medal (BEM) and the British Citizen Award (BCAc), among many others recognising his outstanding service to the community. Idris is widely respected for his dedication, compassion, and unwavering drive to make a meaningful difference.
