National Medical Examiner Updates
July 2023
Medical Examiner’s Office can confirm that the statutory system will be in place for April 2024.
This means unequivocally that all deaths will be scrutinised by medical examiners both in the community and hospital.
New and digitised Medical Certificate of Cause of Death
When medical examiners become part of the statutory death certification process, Medical Certificates of Cause of Death (MCCDs) will need to be countersigned by a medical examiner before the death can be registered. This means that a New Form will be required and should be in place before implementation.
